I started Teklila because I wanted to create the kinds of scarves I was always looking for myself—prints that felt interesting and distinctive, but that I could still imagine building an outfit around.

For my debut Heritage Collection, I wanted to draw from my Libyan heritage without simply placing traditional motifs onto scarves. I kept coming back to the details that caught my attention: the rhythm of a woven textile, the colours of weathered rock, the way light moves through a sea cave, or the particular shades of a landscape. Those details became the starting point for each print.

A lot of the design happens with the finished scarf in mind. I think about what will appear around the face, how the colours will meet once the fabric is folded, and how a pattern that works flat will change when it is actually draped and worn. Teklila gives me room to keep creating—sometimes from a story or a place, and sometimes simply from a colour, a print, or an idea I want to see brought to life.

More than anything, I hope you make these scarves your own. I hope one becomes the scarf you reach for without thinking, the one that pulls an outfit together or simply makes you feel especially like yourself when you put it on. I spend so much time with each design before it becomes a finished scarf, so there’s something special about knowing that eventually it leaves my hands and becomes part of someone else’s wardrobe.
